SAF Africa Announces NUFIC 2026: Nigeria’s Biggest Food Innovation Challenge & Guinness World Record Attempt
SAF Africa, in partnership with the University of Abuja, is proud to announce the National University Food Innovation Challenge (NUFIC) 2026 — Nigeria’s largest food innovation event and Guinness World Record attempt. The inaugural event will take place from 25–27 June 2026 at the University of Abuja Main Campus, Airport Road, Abuja, with an expected attendance of over 7,000 participants.
Three Days, Three Pillars
NUFIC 2026 is built around three transformative pillars that together create an unparalleled platform for agricultural food innovation in Nigeria:
Day 1: Guinness World Record Attempt. Over 7,000 participants will come together to conduct a coordinated food-based science experiment, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record. This landmark event will position Nigeria as a leader in food science and innovation on the global stage.
Day 2: Food Innovation Exhibition & Stakeholder Forum. Featuring 100+ exhibition booths, the second day brings together students, corporates, government agencies, and international partners. Attendees will engage in expert-led panel discussions covering topics from commercialisation to export readiness, alongside hands-on masterclasses in food safety, packaging, and branding.
Day 3: Innovation Judging, Awards & Recognition. The grand finale features a Shark Tank-style pitch competition where student innovators present their food products to a panel of industry experts and investors. Winners will share in a prize pool of over ₦8.5 million, with the Grand Champion receiving ₦2 million plus business incubation support.
A Platform for Nigeria’s Future Food Leaders
Co-hosted with the University of Abuja under a formal MOU, NUFIC is designed as a structured platform for showcasing, judging, and commercially launching student-developed agriculture-based food products. The event will bring together university students from food science, agriculture, and biochemistry programmes alongside corporate leaders from agribusiness and FMCG, government regulators including NAFDAC and SON, international development partners such as FAO, UNDP, and GIZ, and impact investors seeking the next breakthrough in Nigerian food innovation.
Award categories include:
- Grand Champion — ₦2,000,000 + incubation
- Most Commercially Viable Product — ₦1,000,000
- Young Innovator of the Year — ₦1,000,000 + mentorship
